Slow Days

I hope you all can forgive the slow updates lately. We've mostly been having slow days with baby steps, so I find myself often saying "well...what am I going to write?" It's become easier to say progress over the span of a few days now as opposed to a day at a time.

Over the last week, Judi has started working her left side more. She had been strongly favoring her right side, which seems consistent with the location of her brain injury. However, she has started to track visually all the way over to her left side, as well as move that foot and hand more than before. She is also continuing to do well with the Passy-Muir valve. We hope to see her off the trach soon!

I also wanted to thank you all for leaving helpful comments and sending cards to Judi. The comments help us a great deal, and the cards are helping her! We frequently get comments about how her room is so full of love and warmth, with pictures and cards plastered everywhere. You all have helped create a great environment of healing.

Judi, I am so proud of all your hard work. Keep on getting better and making progress. I have thought about your question about rehbiliation facilities. Walton is a good rehab facility and many people have made progress at Walton. If I could choose a rehab facilty it would be Shepherd. They have more resources and they have a great reputation. I know therapists that have worked at both faciities. I was priviledged to work with a PT from Shepherd several years ago and I learned so much from her experience.

We are continuing to pray for all of you.

  4. Judi,
You hang in there! You know that we have both seen our share of miracles in the hospital and we are praying for your full recovery. It will take a fiery red-head and lots of prayers to give you the strength to see this thru. Keep up the good work and hopefully soon you will be at rehab where you will see amazing results! We love you and are praying for you daily.

  6. Hello Ms. Judi, Steve, and Jessica. Sounds like things are still progressing which is very encouraging. Shepard is a state of the art facility, and they do have brain injury rehab. If it were spinal cord deficit, i would say absolutely. However, i do think Walton has a very good brain injury, stroke rehab and would be closer for yall to be able to see her more frequently. Plus they have a physical medicine rehab department that may be helpful. Miss yall, and hope Judi will make some big baby steps this July 4th!
